Sugar and Spice

Today was a perfect day to whip up a batch of cookies. This recipe is one of my childhood favorites, and my family loves them too. The ingredients mix quickly, and there is something satisfying about rolling a little ball of dough around in cinnamon and sugar.

MMMmmmMMmmmmm...

Snickerdoodles

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup butter

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 eggs

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 3/4 flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

Sugar and cinnamon for rolling mixture

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine dry ingredients in bowl and set aside. Blend shortening, butter, sugar and eggs and vanilla  until smooth. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Shape dough into walnut-sized balls. Roll ball in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.

We hope this recipe gets you into a cookie frame of mind, thinking of your own family favorites, and please check back in with us soon. Not only do we smell yummy cookies baking, we also smell a contest coming! 🙂
