Budding Artist Scholarships

“Expression in words provokes thought, while expression in paint generates experience.” – Kristin Abraham

Do you know an art student that could use scholarship money to assist their creative learning? We all know how difficult it is to save for continuing education and college, and that every little bit helps, whether for tuition, books and supplies, or housing. We recently found out, that Krylon® Products is supporting the arts by giving back to the fine art community that has supported them for over 60 years.

In 1947, Krylon® introduced the first aerosol clear protective acrylic coating. Today, their name is synonymous with fine art preservation and high-performance clear coatings, artist sprays and adhesives. This year, Krylon has announced their Third Annual Clear Choice Art Scholarships. The program will award $13,800 in money, grants and art supplies to future artists and their schools, including five $1,000 scholarships and five $500 grants for winners’ high schools.

“Krylon is proud to invest in and recognize the artists of tomorrow by awarding scholarships that help them pursue their dreams today while also meeting rising tuition costs,” said Katherine Merkle, Krylon brand manager. “To show our support for the artists and their high schools, each of the winners’ high school art programs will also receive a package of our artist sprays and adhesives, from which multiple students can benefit.”

The scholarship program is open to high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores in the United States and Canada. Students are required to submit a portfolio, artist’s statement, letter of recommendation and transcripts.

In addition to the $1,000 scholarships, the five recipients will receive a package of Krylon artist sprays and adhesives, worth approximately $120, for use in their work. Each of the high schools from which they will or have graduated from will be awarded a package worth $300. Ten additional students and their high schools will receive gift packages as well.

Scholarship applications are due by April 30, 2011. Recipients will be notified by July 15, 2011. To download the application form or for more information about the Krylon Clear Choice Art Scholarships, visit www.krylon.com/art.
