it may have been a fishing reel at one time but it sure looks like the kind of thing we had to use to wind and unwind our string to fly a kite!

Kind of looks like one of my Dad’s old fishing reels, with a different type of line on it.

It is a fishing reel with fishing line . . . that’s the crank on the top right.
I’m guessing it to be an old fishing reel.
