What is it? (sorry that it’s a little blurry, but you get the idea…)
These nostalgic flurries are inexpensive to make and have oh, so many uses!
“With all things ‘retro’ these days, it seemed only right to bring out the tried and true—old-fashioned crocheted snow-flakes. Many years ago, these snowflakes were stiffened with starch or with sugar and water mixtures. Today you can purchase a premade stiffening agent, or use a mixture of white craft glue and water as shown. There are many uses for these snowflakes besides the obvious tree decorating. Tie one onto a gift this season, hang them in a wreath, tie several to a country wrought-iron chandelier, or place one in each of your window panes. Use your imagination!”

Lacy Snowflake
Materials
• White cotton crochet thread, size 10
• Size 8 steel crochet hook
• Scissors, white craft glue, warm water, small bowl, straight pins, piece of corrugated cardboard, waxed paper, clear nylon thread.

Instructions
Note: Please use the following guide for abbreviations:
Ch = chain Sl
st = slip stitch
Rep = repeat
Lp = loop
Sk = skip
Dc = double crochet
1. Rnd 1: Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 3, 2 dc in ring. Ch 5, join w/sl st to 5th ch from hook. *3 dc in ring. Ch 5, join w/sl st to 5th ch from hook. Rep from * 4 times more. You will have 6 ch 5 loops around.
2. Rnd 2: Sl st into the next dc. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc in next ch 5 lp. *SK next dc. Dc in next dc. Sk next dc. 2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc in next ch 5 lp. Rep from * around. Join w/sl st to top of ch 3.
3. Rnd 3: Ch 4. Sk next 2 dc. Dc, ch 3, dc, ch 4, dc, ch 3, dc in next ch 4 space. Sk next 2 dc. *Dc in next dc. Sk next 2 dc. Dc, ch 3, dc, ch 4, dc, ch 3, dc in next ch 4 space. Sk next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/sl st to 3rd ch of the beg ch 4 of this round.
4. Rnd 4: Ch 3 *sc in next ch 3 space. Dc, ch 3, Cd, ch 3, dc, ch 7, dc, ch 3, dc, ch 3, dc all in next ch 4 space. Sc in next ch 4 space. Dc in top of next dc. Repeat from * 5 times. Join with sl st to beg ch 3. Weave in ends.
5. To stiffen snowflakes, take piece of corrugated cardboard and pin waxed paper over it.
6. Pour equal amounts of white craft glue and warm water into small bowl and mix well.
7. Dip snowflake into mixture until saturated. Squeeze out excess.
8. Pin snowflake onto waxed paper board, and then stretch into desired shape.
9. Allow to dry completely.
10. Once dry, remove from board. Make hanger loop with clear thread by stringing through a point of snowflake. 1. Rnd 1: Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. Ch 3, 1 dc in ring, ch 2, *2 dc in ring, ch 2: repeat from * 4 times. Join to 3rd ch of beginning ch 3. (12 dc, 6 ch 2 loops.)
2. Rnd 2: Ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, * sc in next ch 2 space, ch 2: dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, repeat from * around. End with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.
3. Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, (ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook) 3 times (picot made), ch 3, sl st in next sc, ch 4, sl st in sc. *Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, (ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook) 3 times, ch 3, sl st in next sc. Repeat from * 4 times, ch 3 sl st in base of beginning ch 3. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

• White cotton crochet thread, size 10
• Size 8 steel crochet hook
• Scissors, white craft glue, straight pins, corrugated cardboard, waxed paper, clear nylon thread, warm water, small bowl

Note: Please use the following guide for abbreviations:
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
1. Rnd 1: Ch 10, sl st to form ring.
2. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 24 sc into ring, sl st into 1st sc.
3. Rnd 3: Ch 8, sk 3 sc, dc into next. Repeat around–6 loops formed-sl st in 2nd ch of beginning ch to join.
4. Rnd 4: Ch 1, *5 sc in 1st loop, ch 8, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 6, sl st in same space as previous sl st, ch 4, again sl st in same space as previous 2 sl st (picot cluster formed), ch 4, 5 sc in same loop. Ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook, ch 6, sl st in same space, ch 4, sl st in same space to form another picot cluster. Repeat from * around the 5 remaining loops. Join with sl st at base of 1st sc. Weave in ends.
